Dear M.A.P.S Warriors:
I want to acknowledge the courage it took for you to visit this page. I know what it feels like to have that deep fear of living in an abusive relationship.
My name is Sarah-Marie. I’m a mom of 3 children and remarried with 4 wonderful step-children. I’ve been a nurse for 15 years, a martial artist for five years and self-defense instructor for two years. I’m also an intimate partner abuse and cancer survivor.
It’s these life experiences and knowledge that inspired me to create M.A.P.S Project Defense. I wanted to bring together compassion, empathy and safety in a whole new way. Using trauma informed practices, real world self-defense techniques, the latest information in safety practices, intimate partner abuse and violence research, mindfulness and empowerment. M.A.P.S Project Defense helps victims and survivors feel empowered to lead the team they need to find the freedom of living a life with out abuse.
You are not alone. There are survivors, advocates, lawyers, medical professionals, law enforcement officers and so many more working to help victims and survivors. It’s my sincere wish that anyone who visits this website finds encouragement and knowledge, but most of all HOPE.
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” Maya Angelou
